Movie Review : Les Miserables
I recently reviewed Les Miserables for New Empress:
Les Misérables is the sprawling tale of tortured souls, the downtrodden poor and civil unrest in nineteenth century France. The story starts in 1815 where Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), imprisoned for nineteen years for stealing a loaf of bread, breaks his parole and is then relentlessly pursued by the steadfast Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe). Eight years later and having made his fortune, Valjean takes in Cosette, daughter of the ill-fated Fantine (Anne Hathaway) and sees it as his duty in life to keep the girl safe. The action then turns to 1832 amid the stirrings of an anti-monarchist uprising. Revolution is in the air as the grown up Cosette (Amanda Seyfried) and Valjean become embroiled in the escalating upheaval.
