Shame (2011)
MOVIE SUMMARY:
Brandon is a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his mentally unstable younger sister moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon's insular life spirals out of control. In another angle we can say, In New York City, Brandon's carefully cultivated private life -- which allows him to indulge his sexual addiction -- is disrupted when his sister Sissy arrives unannounced for an indefinite stay.
Shame is a 2011 British drama film co-written and directed by Steve McQueen, starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. Shame was co-produced by Film4 and See-Saw Films. Shame's explicit sexual scenes resulted in this film being rated NC-17 in the United States.
Fox Searchlight Pictures paid around $400,000 to acquire the United States distribution rights of Shame. The film opened in limited release in the United States on 2 December 2011.
